Political sites

Huberspace provides Web consulting services, with specialization in political Web sites. Jim Huber has been designing political campaign and organization sites for nine years. He has consulted political candidates, lectured on designing effective, political Web sites. He has even been on the candidate side of a political campaign.

Political campaigns come and go, and, so do their Web sites. Of those that are still active, a few notable political Web sites include:

Political campaign sites

  • Patricia Phillips for State Senate

Challenger campaign site for Virginia's 33rd State Senate district. Uses the Backdoor, our content management system, heavily. They have been pretty good about following our usability advice. As a result, the site is pretty clean and to the point. According to their campaign manager, in an email, "the web site is awesome and surprisingly easy to use."

  • Re-elect Eugene Delgaudio, Sterling District Supervisor

Site featuring Eugene's re-election campaign as Supervisor in Sterling District, Loudoun County, Virginia. Also uses the Backdoor, including the recently added beta Newsletter admin.

  • Paul Chomicki for President

A unique, presidential parody site from the 2000 presidential election. We designed the site and wrote all of the content, creating a campaign that did its best to positively spin an embarrassingly poor candidate. For added realism, we sent out actual press releases to real members of the media. As a result the campaign was twice mentioned in the Washington Times.

Organizations

  • National Foundation for Women Legislators

This site was created to provide resources to and to promote women in elective office. It makes extensive use of the Backdoor, demonstrating the benefits of both structure and the flexibility of the system.

  • Free Muslims Coalition

This organization was created to eliminate broad base support for Islamic extremism and terrorism and to strengthen secular democratic institutions in the Middle East and the Muslim World by supporting Islamic reformation efforts. Yet another happy client using the Backdoor.

  • Public Advocate of the United States

Pro-family grassroots activist organization. Recently redesigned, with cleaner visual design, better navigation and site structure, and improved overall usability. Front page has a dynamic "content slider" (teasers for several highlighted items rotate in and out), which not only looks cool, but is user-friendly, search engine friendly, and degrades nicely when users disable Javascript.

  • The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation

Foundation created to build a memorial commemorating the millions of people who died under the tyranny of Communism. The clean and simple design of site is a result of a 1-2 hour window to redesign the site (long story why we only had that much time). Client was satisfied, so the simple design remains.
